Education Courses

Professional Sommelier Certification under the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers requires a sequence of six courses or steps, and at least 30 hours of "stage experience".

The courses are: Wine Professionalism/Sensory Evaluation, Old World Wines, New World/Beer and Spirits, Winemaking, Sommelier Management, and successful completion of the CAPS Service Exam.

Wine Professionalism/Sensory Evaluation is a pre-requisite for the other courses.

Courses are NOT offered every year, and only as demand (i.e. the number of people who want to learn more) is there.

A Professional Sommelier is a certified expert on the identification, marketing and serving of fine wines. These courses will cover the Wine Cultures of the World, the role of a Professional Sommelier, as well as a detailed study of the wines.
